tattoo tut tut

one important thing i forgot to write about was a conversation i had with my OB about my tattoo.

i have a large-ish black ink work on my lower back, right on the spine, measuring about 3.5 inches wide and 4.5 inches high. i had it done in 2003 and i'm proud to say that i have received many compliments on how beautiful it is.

i told my OB about it because i told her right off that i want an epidural. yep. none of this totally natural and drug-free births for me. yep. i am not a pain hound, and two of the things i fear for real are 1) dying while giving birth and 2) the pain while giving birth. i may not have control over #1, but heck, let me do what i can over #2. no lamaze classes for me, just stick in that epidural please thank you. however, i did look into water births but chong hua doesn't offer it and i don't think anybody else in cebu does.

the reason i mentioned my tattoo to my OB is because i'd heard that you can't have an epidural in an area where you have a tattoo because sticking a needle in might drive some ink into your spine. how true? i would research more on this if i had time, but between work and morocco, it will have to be after that.

so anyways, i showed my tat to my OB and she said "its a beautiful tattoo. my gosh. but why do you have it there?" "because i wasn't thinking of getting pregnant and getting an epidural when i had it done."

and can i have an epidural? she has to check with her anesthesiologist.
